Greetings, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Thank you for visiting our church website.  This site has been designed for the purpose of expressing the doctrinal beliefs and ministry philosophies of Bethany Baptist Church of McCandless Township.

Here is a simple and succinct overview of who we are as a church body: Bethany Baptist is a small assembly of believers, in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, committed to rightly interpreting and proclaiming the inerrant and infallible Holy Scriptures.  Though there are a number of fine Bible translations, we regularly use the English Standard Version (ESV).  The theological “flavor” of our church is Calvinistic, though all are welcome here who are either seeking or serving the King of kings and Lord of lords – Jesus Christ.  We believe in keeping the main thing the main thing; and at Bethany, the main thing is always Jesus Christ.  He is the One we continually strive to magnify.  He is the One we continually point to for forgiveness and salvation.  For a greater specificity on what we believe, please click on “Our Beliefs.”

We hold the church in the highest esteem because we believe the local church is the only institution on earth ordained by God to carry out His redemptive purposes for humanity.  When fulfilling its mission, the church is an unstoppable force bringing to fruition the salvific purposes of God and the advancement of His kingdom. Jesus declared in Matthew 16:18 – “I will build My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”  By such a statement it is made most clear that the church’s ultimate success is totally dependent upon the sovereign purpose and power of Jesus Christ.  It is the Lord of the church who will sufficiently give to the church all that it needs to carry out its divine mission.  Through a deliberate reliance on Christ alone, the church will become all that it has been specifically called of God to be.
